It has been about 16 years since we last saw water laying on the ground like we used to every year but this year there is water lying on the ground already so it is definitely rubber boots weather now and it is just the first day of winter. Today it was so cold that I went and bought myself a new jacket to keep me warm, but not before I went and bought some more yarn to make some items for those who are permanently out in this cold weather. We had ice on all the windscreens this morning so imagine these poor souls who have to sleep out in it.. we have not had proper heating for the last 5 years, stupid central heating in country areas don't mix real well, along with the problem of trying to get tradies to travel out to fix them. I seem to spend 6 months of the year begging a tradie to come out and fix our heating system, then summer comes and it slips to the back of my mind. Up until this year we did have a fire to keep the chill off but it came to grief last winter and we haven't been able to get it fixed yet.. so while I sit in front of my little portable heater I really feel for those who are exposed to the elements and can only imagine how cold they must be. Which leads me to more knitting for helping these people at least feel a little bit warmer. Some of the items I have completed include these items.

<img style="width: 150px; Our next younger son is playing in the Under 18s this year and his sister is playing under 17s netball on the same day AND they both have the same training nights..yaye.. good less travel.. hehe then the next 2 younger girls decided they would like to play netball this year.. okay same club, different day of play from the other 2... yeah sure we can manage that... sport both Saturday and Sunday we have done before so should be okay.. surely trainings will be the same nights as the others....... nope.NOT. one trains Tuesday nights, another Wednesday nights and then the other 2 are Thursday nights. 2 girls are also doing their confirmations with meetings and lessons etc on Monday nights.. leaves me with Friday/night at home... sometimes.... lol we now have 4 children at 3 different schools and trying to juggle who has to be picked when and by whom is getting a tad hard at times... trying to have them all at their trainings etc on the right nights and on time with over an hours distance between the schools..lol lucky for me I think my sanity levels are still in check...being in the country I have to either pick one up from one school then travel into the other town to meet up with the others and take them to trainings or sometimes I will let one come home on the bus to her dad when he is going to be home early from work.....anyways this sees me leaving home at around 2pm each day and not getting home until after 7pm...I think I spend more time in the car than anywhere else now.... I also thought with all the training nights I would get plenty of knitting time .....lol.. nope my 4 year old put paid to that... she wants to get out and 'play' netball with me whilst the others are training now... well it is either that or put up with her in the car 'needing' this or that.. I know which I prefer.. but hopefully as the days get shorter we won't be able to 'play' in the dark, the others will train under lights then.
So not much knitting gets done apart from the Saturday whilst I am watching the older ones play their sport, have duties to perform on Sundays with the younger 2.. but I grab the occasional 5 - 10 minutes during my short time at home..lol when I really should be catching up on housework... but........
With all the goings on I am actually surprised at what I have achieved knitting wise..
Some time last year I started a diagonal blanket and was almost 3/4 of the way thru it and ran out of yarn.grrr. so it got put aside while I decided what my next actions would be with it.. needless to say it sat and sat looking at me sadly as I couldn't decide what to do with it and my chances of finding more yarn in it's colorway was almost zilch. It is a varigated mint blue. well guess what I found while browsing a shop recently( read that as running thru the aisles looking for what I really needed, hehe).. yep the color I was after to finish this blanket off, albeit a different brand of yarn but none the less the same colorings.. should I grab it and hope it blends in okay or what... you bet ya I did and would you believe you can't tell which is which brand of yarn it is so close a match.. I now have a nice varigated baby blanket finished and ready to head off to a new owner. I have also finished off 2 scarves, a couple of beanies and a few premmie beanies along with 10 little AFL teddy scarves and almost finished, just need the ends sewn in and the seams sewn is a pair of fingerless gloves and a pair of 'Slippers with Soul' slippers. Next project on the cards is a little Milo vest for my gorgeous little nephew Dec. Just waiting to get my hands on the pattern, the clever designer just happens to be one of my sisters, and then I am going to knit myself a little scarfette cos the nights are getting bloody cold at trainings and I need something around my neck to warm me up... think it will get done... we will see..

I would just like to put in a request here.. :-)
I have been receiving quite a few comments from different people but in another language/s.. either Chinese or Japanese I am not sure which, but as all comments are moderated and for the life of me I cannot find my language interpreter site again would it be possible if comments left be in English or if some kind person could please send me a link to the language interpreter site.. I know I had it somewhere but it seems to have disappeared from my pcs....... I would hate for someone to think I am ignoring their comments, I really am not, I just don't know what they say..lol and would really like to know before I ok them.
Well that is all from me for now..
Hugs and take care until next time, hopefully with pics of some new finished items..
Juwleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16759105476385225606noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3879485736154436730.post-43713944396072961342010-02-24T18:51:00.003+11:002010-02-24T19:06:47.664+11:00Okay I may be Slack BUT.....I have been busy... others may not believe it but I have been busy making items and donating them. To me that is more important than updating my blog..also living my busy life can be very hard at times as those who know me well will attest to.. to those who wish to leave unwarranted comments on this blog so be it! You never know if your unwarranted comments are the last someone can handle.. I know I would hate to think I made someone feel worse by my comments or actions..
hence all future comments on this blog will be moderated.. there is enough nastiness and cruelty in this world and this blog is not the place for it.. this blog is about giving to those and helping those in need..
To those who understand my life and do follow my blog, I apologise and I also thank you for being so patient. I will update shortly when time and life permits.

Hug those important to you and smile at the rest..Juwleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16759105476385225606noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3879485736154436730.post-54233698901515247012009-06-13T22:10:00.006+10:002009-06-13T23:16:14.021+10:00I know I am slack but this is ridiculous...Okay I have been neglectful... over 2 months.... but I have been doing things and making things...

Let's see what I have made.. some more of the Never ending Blanket Squares.I really enjoy making these. I usually do the normal granny squares when I am crocheting up my scraps of wool and the blankets are then donated to the homeless. But this is based on the 'Never Ending Blanket' square which is less 'holey' and I have so far made up 7 of these squares for charity. They crochet up very quickly and I am really enjoying making them. These squares will be going to Knit4Charity yahoo group to be made into blankets and donated to a hospice. Think I may have to make up some more of these little beauties..

Well at long last I am getting myself a bit more organised and have taken some photos of some of the finished items I have waiting to go on a journey to help out those in need.

This hat and scarf along with a couple of balls of wool are on their way to the bushfire survivors.. imagine loosing all your stashes both yarn and fabric and not having anything to play with............

These are 2 pair of mittens that will be heading on their way to help out a couple of newborns..... just need to replace the ribbons in these with some crocheted chains first though..

This is my little 'case' in which I keep all my finished items until they venture off to their new homes. It is hard to believe that it is almost 2 months since those horrendous fires...... but still so much devastation exists... and so much more work is still to be done...

where we live we consider ourselves very lucky.. we are in the South west of the state and although we had our own fires and tragedies to deal with they diminish in comparison to those in the north west of the state. I have not blogged about this or much else for that matter as I really was unsure on what to say and how to say it. The shock and total disbelief of what was happening in our state was just too great to comprehend. We have lived through many wildfires before but these were the exception.. the country was a tinderbox, just waiting... and in parts of the state it still is.... the saddest and most unbelievable part of all this is that some of these fires were deliberately lit..........and in our area are still being deliberately lit....... as we drive around our little part of the world you can see the scars everywhere, the blackened earth and charred remains of trees and fences..... luckily our local firies were very active and attacked every fire with a vengence and quickly controlled most fires much to their credit...... we have just had a large fire in our area brought under control today that has been burning for a number of days....believed to be deliberately lit..... and still we get no rain............. I cannot recall it ever being so dry before in April around here. I can recall having hot days in April but they were always followed by rain.... our last lot of 'real rain' here was 3 weeks ago and prior to that was early December...... and this all follows on from the drought that has been experienced over the last 10 years..... the ground is so dry it will take a really good wet season to repair it all.

So what have I been doing all this time..........

Knitting, sewing, donating...... doing whatever I could to help out where I could......

I have knitted and sent off numerous beanies to those affected by the fires, it gets really cold in the mountains even in summer.....so knitted beanies were sent off to a quilter I know who passed them on to those who needed them..... sorry no pics, I forgot to take photos of them.

I already had 3 tote bags made up that I had listed for sale so I sent these off for those who had lost everything. Pic above is one of 2 similar ones I sent off. Hopefully they have come in handy for the survivors. I have just finished a scarf and only need to sew up a beanie and then they will be on their way with a couple of other beanies and some balls of wool for the knitters in the areas...

Not sure whether it was the timing or what but I had just joined an online knitting group the week leading up to these fires and it is amazing the outpouring of help that I have seen happening in this and other online groups I am involved in. This knitting group knits and crochets items of need for needy charities and groups. They have been involved in making beanies, scarves, jumpers, blankets, possum pouches and other items for wildlife. Another online group I am in has been making quilts for all those affected by the fires and hope to make 7500 quilts. I feel privileged to have been able to help and continue to help out thru these groups and others.

This photos shows some of the items I was working on prior to the fires, excuse the mess, this is my ongoing projects bag... I will have to get a photo of my little storage case.. I think it is quite cute... I have lately also been busily playing around with different squares after being sent a link to the 'Never ending blanket' pattern.... I have had fun making different versions of this pattern and so far have 5 different squares of varying sizes... I stayed at home and relaxed with some knitting...lol
I have been in slow mode since christmas and relaxing with the kids on holidays.. I have been doing some knitting and some crocheting... I have completed 2 beanies for the orphans in East Timor and have another one on the needles and I have also finished a crocheted blanket and have 3 more blankets on the go. These will go to the homeless locally.. I make the blankets from all the scraps left over from my knitting projects so no waste of wool and also it enables someone else to benefit from the wool that is not enough to get anything else out of..

I also placed 4 presents under the wishing christmas trees for the needy just prior to christmas and couldn't help but notice the larger than normal amount of needy on the trees this year. As I quickly skimmed over the ages and sexes of those in need one thing stuck out in my mind..... there are a lot of elderly people in need at christmas time... and as the young are the more popular for gift giving when it comes to the trees they tend to miss out..... this stuck in my mind over christmas and I kept thinking of these people..... there was an 87 year old female, a 54 year old male and also a 25 year female that caught my attention the most..... why I am not sure but I kept thinking what has happened to the families of these people? why are they so alone and in need especially at christmas time...... I felt sad for these and other people in similar circumstances.
I completely understand some may have had fallings out with their families or other circumstances beyond their control may have contributed to them being alone but I still felt bad for these people.
I have made a note in my journals that this year I am going to make some pressies for these and other people like them for next christmas....... the only problem I am having is coming up with ideas for older males whom I do not know. what do I make for them or what can I give to them to make their christmas special next year..... any ideas??? females are pretty easy to make things for........ lots of ideas around for the older female and also some great ideas for the young female adults but when it comes to the males I am at a loss... lol no wonder I have trouble finding things for my own males in my family...

In our local newspaper just prior to christmas also was a piece about a lady who was hosting a special christmas BBQ tea for those who were lonely or in need on Christmas night. what a wonderful thing for her to do.. She had contacted some of the local businesses and asked for donations towards meat etc. and had a handful of helpers to assist her. They did a followup story on Boxing day and were pleased to report that about 20 lonely and needy people had attended the BBQ and had the best christmas they had ever had.. along with the helpers they all enjoyed their special time...... and they are now going to make it an annual event. well done to this lady for her compassion and thought for those in need.. she didn't have to do it but wanted to so as to help those less fortunate out.... what a wonderful thing to do.....
I wish there were more people like her around to help make this a better world for everyone involved but it just goes to show that the smallest of things can make a huge difference in someone's life....

Do something kind tomorrow for someone who is a complete stranger and you will feel so much better for doing it..........
hugs to allJuwleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16759105476385225606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3879485736154436730.post-89623447149836565212008-11-26T21:00:00.004+11:002008-11-26T21:41:45.955+11:00Wow another month gone and I have been slack!!!
I really can't believe almost a month has passed since I last updated this blog. I have no idea where time has gone but I have been doing things not being slack..lol

Yesterday I posted off a parcel of premmie hats and a pair of bootees for the Newcastle NICU, another small parcel of 6 premmie hats went off to Mercy Hospital for Women for their NICU and also a large parcel for http://sewmanyquiltstoolittletime.blogspot.com/ this parcel consisted of a pair of bootees and a hat, 3 packets of pencils and 6 pencil cases, a couple of caps, some FQS for the many and wonderful quilts this lady makes and a few bumbags. These are all sent on to the children of East Timor. These poor kids have very little school supplies, their school is a tin shed with a dirt floor, desks made out of trees and their stools are logs... if you have a look at the blog you will see how little these people have and you just have to feel for them and want to do something to help them out. Any donation, no matter how small will make a difference to these kids.

Thought I should post a pic of the little scarves I make for the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. I haven't sent any since the season ended but I have made 1..lol I will get into making more of these after xmas and hopefully have quite a few ready to send once the season starts up again.

I have still been making things, I have finished another little hat this week and almost finished 2 more big scarves for the kids in Timor and Afghanistan. Must remind myself to take photos of the items I make, I have a shocking habit of forgetting to take photos of the projects I finish. I tend to put them together in a basket ready for posting and then forget to take pics.... I have a couple of pairs of pyjamas to finish off also, just need to do the cuffs and they will go into the finished items basket ready for posting..

I was lucky enough this week to be the recipient of a ruler holder. My son was wanting to do things and as he is handy with wood he is busily making bits and pieces to sell. of course I get to keep all the prototypes.. lol

Well till next time, take care of those you love.

hugs

Juwleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16759105476385225606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3879485736154436730.post-90243078098538124742008-10-31T00:27:00.002+11:002008-10-31T00:42:21.490+11:00update of donationswell it has been a little longer than I had planned for updating...life sometimes gets hectic here...lol
Well I sent off a parcel for Cathy's Crafters 4 Charity consisting of an embroidered tablerunner, some scented purse sachets, some bath mitts and some beaded xmas tree decorations. am in the process of making some bookmarks for this charity also.. Also there are a host of other things you can do to help if you do not sew or knit etc.. you can make a donation of wool or fabric that can be made into an item of need.. many organisations would love help with items such as paper, cards, envelopes, etc. anything that helps in the organisation is of benefit......
I have contact details for all the organisations I will be listing and they all acknowledge receipt of the items that are sent to them.. I find that if they take 5 minutes out of their day to email me that items have arrived safely, then they are really there to care about those we are all really trying to help. After all it is nice to know that the people we are making things for are actually receiving them.....
Why I do it this way is because I found a garment I had donated to one organisation was for sale in their 'shop'... I had stated when I first started donating that the items were to be handed over to the people they were made for.. those in real need.. the homeless and the needy...
I have nothing against organisations selling items for money to help the needy but I felt the item I had made and donated would benefit a needy person much more than a "bargain shopper". no offence meant here... and I had requested it be given to someone who normally would never receive a brand new item of clothing for themselves...
another parcel I sent thru the mail with numerous articles of clothing and items for the homeless, to a different organisation, was never acknowledged. I presume it arrived safely at its destination but I will just have to hope that it eventually was handed over to it's intended recipients..... it costs us nothing to send an email but a little time and a touch of effort.... but by acknowledging that items have arrived safely at their destinations does make the sender/donor feel more comfortable to send on future donations... this is just my thoughts though.. and a sign of respect....Juwleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16759105476385225606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3879485736154436730.post-81194480279351281112008-09-24T14:07:00.001+10:002008-10-31T00:18:37.694+11:00The reason behind this blog!!Well where do I start...lol
I first started donating handmade items to charity a long time ago. Whether it was a quilt or a hat it didn't matter, I still felt I was doing something worthwhile, which I was.. I mainly donated items locally and whenever the needs arose..
My local craft group would hold an evening where we would create items to those in need, sometimes we made little toiletry bags and filled them with toothhbrushes and personal items for kids in orphanges overseas, we would knit or crochet squares and make them into blankets for the elderly in hospices and hospitals, we made quilts for cancer patients, knitted garments for World Vision and so on... but I felt I could do more than the small amount we were doing so I started knitting little hats for premature babies and donating them.... then I misplaced my details for the person I was sending my items to and do you think I could find those details again. Grrrrrrrrr.....
I enquired thru my online patchwork group if anyone had the details I was seeking but no one did. From this I was asked if I could knit premature hats and bootees for a hospital NICU in Newscastle which I gladly agreed to. I sent off the first batch of 35 hats and 1 little pair of bootees and the response back to me was very pleasing... It made me feel I had made a difference in someone's life....
So from there I started thinking what a difference could be made to others in need.. I started searching for other groups who were in need of items..... sadly I found that contact details and addresses for sending items were not readily available... but I did not give up and have spent considerable hours on the internet searching, contacting and waiting for replies...... to my disappointment very few organisations answered my enquiries........... maybe something to think about if you are involved in these organisations........ how much you could be missing out on by simply not following thru with an email no matter how small the pledge...... every little bit helps.......
I read everything I could find on helping others and the different things that were needed... I found there is a great need out there for warm clothing, hats, scarves etc. quilts, blankets and bedding items and also for things we take for granted everyday like personal hygiene items, toiletry items and the list just goes on and on..... the internet certainly makes the world a smaller place but it also opens ones eyes to the poverty that is everywhere.......
The more I read and researched the more my heart strings were pulled...... could you possibly imagine each night as we crawl into our warm beds those poor beings who have no beds, no homes and no blankets or warm clothing to keep them warm and also no food in their bellies......and then try and imagine life for those even less fortunate in countries like afghanistan where their winters are nothing like we could imagine......the harshness of their lives just seems so unfair and it moved me so much to start this blog and see if I can in some small way make a difference to the lives of these people and others around our world.
Could you possibly try and imagine a small child begging on the streets of Afghanistan for money for food, try and imagine the chill that they feel from lack of warm clothes and no food in their bellies........ then imagine the babies and very young who are left in the tents in these harsh winters while their mothers go in search of food...... I pinched this passage from a letter on this website www.winterwarm.org this lady is trying to make a difference to these people...

Children are stood in traffic, hands pulled into their sleeves as an alternative fashion to gloves, their sleeves white with snow. They run, many of them, after cars. Their faces appear at half misty windows, shuddering and begging, “Khyrat Bedeh”, their breath frozen on their lips. Their eyes tell the tale; they have not had breakfast; their skinny faces show clearly that they have had no food for an unknown period. Their torn jackets complain; they cannot protect them from the snow and cruel cold. Snow falls constantly and covers their hair, then slowly dissolves, changes to drops and slides down, freezing again before they hit the ground.

Some people think of snow as an elixir that helps them triumph over the fear of drought, but snow, for all its beauty, makes some people cry. Cry for a father whose children cry for food and a little warmth. Cry for a mother who begs out in the cold to bring food to her children, while her children cry at home for their mother to be with them. Cry for a mother who squeezes her tiny baby under her jacket to keep him warm, but can’t do anything to feed him. She, herself, has not eaten enough, how can she feed her baby?
I can’t cry any more. Help me cry for a family who live not in a protective shelter, but a tent with many holes in it, camped on a wet piece of ground, crying for enough food and dreaming of a little warmth.
Yes, these parents dream too. They are ordinary people and dream as we do. However, we have much more and dream of a better tomorrow. They dream for today. They dream of bread for their children. They dream of a time when their children are not hungry, and are warm. They dream of a time when they can look at each other knowing their children are satisfied.

This is just one example of the sadness in our world today.. there are plenty more around if we just take the time to look and care..
My aim of this blog is to open the eyes of people in blogland and hopefully get some others to help these and the many others out there in need. It only takes one small effort by one person to combine with others small efforts to make a huge difference in their lives... are you willing to make a small effort to achieve a huge difference to someone less fortunate...

Juwleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16759105476385225606noreply@blogger.com0
